HVEX / 01VLF hipot HVEX0.1 / 0.05 / 0.02 Hz

Withstand testing

VLF hipot

Assess dielectric withstand in capacitive loads, particularly cables.

Cables · Motors and generators

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

During cable commissioning or maintenance under the applicable procedure. For large motors and generators, only when the method is approved for their insulation.

HOW IT WORKS

Applies high voltage at very low frequency, controlling the ramp and measuring voltage, current and waveform. Configuration depends on asset capacitance.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Evaluates whether insulation withstands the specified test. It does not measure insulation resistance or locate a fault on its own.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Select voltage and load capacity; the datasheet lists up to 80 kV peak depending on configuration.

HVEX / 02Insulation resistance tester HVEX250–5,000 V DC

Insulation · PI · DAR

Insulation resistance tester

Measure insulation resistance, polarization index (PI) and dielectric absorption ratio (DAR).

Cables · Motors and generators · Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

Before commissioning, after storage or during periodic maintenance of cables, motors and transformers.

HOW IT WORKS

Applies DC voltage and measures current to calculate resistance. Records timed readings, polarization and absorption indices.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Compare with history, temperature and asset criteria. A low reading guides investigation; it does not independently determine moisture or remaining life.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Rechargeable battery and USB export. Select a test voltage appropriate to the specific insulation.

HVEX / 03Cable fault locator HVEXModular system

TDR · pinpointing

Cable fault locator

Estimate distance to a fault and support field pinpointing.

Cables

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

Following a fault involving an open circuit, short circuit or leakage, with the method selected for the defect.

HOW IT WORKS

Combines TDR reflectometry, an impulse source and acoustic-magnetic pinpointing. The system also supports cable route tracing.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Estimated distance and pinpointing guide intervention. Optional UHF detection is not equivalent to IEC 60270 apparent-charge PD measurement in pC.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Specify modules, cable length and propagation velocity. Confirm impulse-source power supply and altitude rating.

HVEX / 04Portable partial discharge system HVEXPDMS · HFCT · PD

Insulation diagnostics

Portable partial discharge system

Acquire and analyze partial discharge signals using sensors selected for each asset.

Cables · Motors and generators · Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

During diagnostic campaigns or anomaly investigations on cables, motors, generators and transformers, using measurement points and sensors compatible with the asset.

HOW IT WORKS

Combines acquisition and PDMS software. Depending on the asset, it uses high-frequency current transformers (HFCT) or capacitive coupling sensors. Circuit and noise characterization are required.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Supports pattern and trend analysis. Reporting apparent charge in pC requires a valid setup and calibration; standalone HFCT amplitude is insufficient.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Agree sensors, calibrator and online or offline method with engineering. The case itself is not a high-voltage test source.

HVEX / 05Winding resistance + TTR HVEXInductive loads

Two functions, one system

Winding resistance + TTR

Combine winding resistance with turns ratio, phase and polarity measurements.

Motors and generators · Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

At acceptance, maintenance or following repair. Motors use the resistance function; TTR is for transformers.

HOW IT WORKS

Measures resistance in highly inductive loads. For transformers, the software also runs ratio, polarity and phase-shift tests.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Compare phases, tap positions and historical records with temperature considered. Differences guide connection and winding investigation.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

The datasheet specifies 60 Hz input. For 50 Hz supplies, confirm the configuration with HVEX before selection.

HVEX / 06Portable TTR tester HVEXBattery · 3 kg

Ratio · phase · polarity

Portable TTR tester

Verify transformer turns ratio and winding connections.

Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

At acceptance, commissioning, maintenance or after work on connections and tap changers.

HOW IT WORKS

Applies a test signal and compares HV and LV responses. Evaluates ratio, angle and behavior at different tap positions.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Compare with the nameplate and expected vector group. Investigate deviations; the test does not replace winding resistance or dielectric assessment.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Internal battery, USB and RS232. Datasheet TTR range: 0.8 to 10,000.

HVEX / 0740 A winding resistance tester HVEXUp to 40 A

DC resistance

40 A winding resistance tester

Measure inductive winding resistance and compare phases and taps.

Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

At acceptance and maintenance of transformers, reactors and inductors, and to investigate discontinuities or abnormal connections.

HOW IT WORKS

Injects DC selected for the winding and measures resistance, recording phase, tap and temperature.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Comparison supports investigation of abnormal resistance. It does not replace a dedicated turn-insulation test.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

50/60 Hz supply. The datasheet specifies up to 1,000 m altitude; validate applications above that level.

HVEX / 08Tan delta and capacitance HVEXInternal source up to 12 kV

Dielectric losses

Tan delta and capacitance

Assess dielectric losses and capacitance of the insulation system.

Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

At acceptance, during periodic campaigns or when investigating changes in compatible transformers, bushings, CTs and VTs.

HOW IT WORKS

Measures capacitance and tan δ in the same test, using a connection mode suited to the grounding of the test object.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Compare trends and equivalent references. Results complement insulation resistance and PD measurements; they measure different quantities.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Specify UST/GST mode, capacitance range and voltage. Do not assume this unit performs VLF tan delta cable testing.

HVEX / 09Frequency response analysis HVEXHFRA

FRA / SFRA

Frequency response analysis

Compare a transformer’s frequency-response signature to investigate changes in its active part.

Transformers

How and when to use

WHEN TO USE

To establish an acceptance baseline, compare condition during maintenance or investigate effects of transport, short circuits and interventions.

HOW IT WORKS

Sweeps frequencies and records the response. HFRA software supports curve overlays and historical comparisons.

HOW TO INTERPRET

Differences require analysis using a valid reference and repeatable connections. A signature alone does not identify a specific defect.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

Confirm version, accessories and input supply. The reviewed datasheet specifies 60 Hz input.

03 / FROM TEST TO DECISION

Measure what answers your question.

Tests complement each other. A single measurement cannot describe an asset’s entire condition.

01

Define the question

Acceptance, deterioration trends or a post-fault investigation? Record asset type, voltage, history and available access.

02

Configure the set

Combine instrument, sensors, source where needed and accessories. Confirm 50/60 Hz supply, altitude and working conditions.

03

Compare and interpret

Use a repeatable procedure and record test conditions. Compare with nameplate values, references, temperature and asset history.

04

Document the decision

Combine the findings to decide whether to release, investigate, intervene or extend testing.

04 / COMPLETE YOUR CAMPAIGN

The installation needs testing, too.

Complement asset diagnostics with protection, connection and circuit breaker testing.
